TSURIS

SOMETIMES ONLY A YIDDISH WORD WILL DO!

TSURIS - a Yiddish word meaning aggravating troubles.

You have horrible sciatica, or knee pain, or shoulder pain. This is tsuris.

You fell and broke your ankle while chasing your dog. This is tsuris.

Your dog ran into traffic and was killed. Meanwhile, you are insolvent and your spouse is suing you for divorce and half of your assets. You are nervous, have insomnia, and your mind won't turn off. This is major tsuris.

No matter how big or small your tsuris, a Tsuris session is for you. Physical, emotional, mental pain...it's all tsuris...and yoga can help.

Tsuris is a 1-on-1, private session with the teacher, by prior arrangement. You will fill out pre- and post-session questionnaires.

You will be given a yoga sequence that addresses your unique tsuris. You will do the sequence under the supervision of the teacher. You will then do a short, daily home practice, which you and the teacher will refine over the course of several weeks as we learn what is working best for you. The yoga is a balm that will ease your tsuris.**

"Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured." -- BKS Iyengar

**This class is dedicated to my dear friend Laura’s grandfather, Phil Kohnberg, THE druggist of Chelsea, NYC, from the 1920s to the 1960s. Phil made tonics and potions in brown bottles for every ailment. People would come from all over New York to buy his tonics. He had a tonic called TSURIS, which was for whatever ails you, be it arthritis, worry, jock itch, the flu, bug bites or double vision. “Hey, Phil, gimme a bottle of tsuris!” was a common refrain in New York. This yoga session is the tonic for your tsuris.
